Dream Big in Your Job Search

The great philosopher Confucius once said, “Find a job you
enjoy, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” However,
this is easier said than done. Many ‘Dream Jobs’ of
our youth seem to be out of reach, and the majority of people begin
to settle for a job that pays them well. While it may be difficult
to become that hockey player or professional ballerina, what many
people don’t see is that their dream jobs aren’t always
that far out of reach.
The major road block for most of us to finding our dream job is
a general unwillingness to take risks. If you want to truly find
a job that you love, you must be willing to go out on a limb every
once and a while. A good place to start is on your resume. The majority
of people think that only professional information should be listed
on your resume, but this is not always true! Don’t be afraid
to throw that ballroom dancing championship down on paper. The more
areas of life in which you excel is bound to impress every employer
you visit, plus your extracurricular interests may draw interest
from potential employers in your dream sector! But don’t stop
there! Dare to mention all of your strengths to an employer during
your interview and you may be surprised how far they take you. You
might even gain the confidence to apply for an ‘outlandish’
job, and you might get hired!
So dare to dream big. Be sure to mention that ‘small’
victory at your golf club’s championship. You might find yourself
walking the fairways at Glen Abbey during the Canadian Open holding
Tiger Woods’ golf bag. You just never know!
