Will Telephone Interviews Become a Growing Trend For Employers

In the 1980’s telephone interviews were an uncommon method of choice for selective employers seeking to place new employees. In our contemporary employment marketplace, employers may find that telephone interviews not only save time but also promote a non-judgmental approach for choosing the proper candidate.

Appointments are set up for you, the prospective employee, either to call in or to be near a landline telephone and await a call from an organization. The process begins with a ‘break the ice’ conversation and is followed by a series of brief questions. In combination with the typical interview questions, interviewers could interject a question or two that requires quick thinking. For example, the interviewer might ask a question to describe three uses of a paper clip – or some such question designed to keep you on your toes. Responses are recorded by the telephone interviewer and passed through the appropriate channels in the hiring process. The answers maybe presented to staff persons with or without your name on the top of the page.
