 Senior Staff Accountant 

 

 POSITION SUMMARY:

Senior Staff Accountant assists clients in preparing tax returns, conducting research and providing recommendations based on clients’ unique needs, priorities and objectives. This position also involves mentorship of junior staff as well as preparation of year-end financial statements (Notice to Readers, Reviews and Audits).

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Accounting Engagements

• Collect and review all relevant documents from the client and/or Reviewer prior to the engagement 
 When working with existing clients, inquire about and/or be aware of any changes or additional work required since the last year-end

• Prepare applicable financial statements and notice to reader report with critical attention to detail

• Ensure work is checked for accuracy and quality and all significant issues and tax planning opportunities are identified prior to submitting it to the applicable Reviewer for review

• In consultation with the applicable Reviewer, reflect basic tax planning entries in the file when reviewed by Partner

• Prior to submitting a file for review, ensure any areas of concern are brought to the attention of the applicable Reviewer

• As part of the engagement planning, review the budget for current year, which was completed during the prior year billing process

  • Communicate/meet with client prior to an audit or review to determine expectations for the yearend and applicable time frame to complete the engagement

 • Prepare personal tax returns, ensuring that the file is organized and easy for the reviewer to follow and your work has been checked before submitting for review 

• Prepare other tax returns for clients, including corporate, partnership and trust returns

Job Requirements:

• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance or Business with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience
•CPA designation is an asset 
• Good tax, audit and accounting knowledge
 • Ability to work on all sections of audit or review engagement files, as applicable
• Experience working with corporate groups as opposed to focusing on one client
• Strong attention to detail
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills
• Good communication skills, both verbal and in writing 
• Ability to develop strong working relationships with key contacts at different levels of an organization and understand their needs 
• Highly proficient in MS Office Suite, Caseware, Caseview and Quickbooks, Simply Accounting
