Job Description:




The Supervisor assists clients in preparing tax returns, conducting research and providing recommendations based on clients’ unique needs, priorities and objectives. This position also involves mentorship of junior staff as well as preparation of year-end financial statements (Notice to Readers, Reviews and Audits). 

The position of Supervisor is awarded to those on the path to becoming a Manager. The Supervisor shall perform the roles and have the responsibilities of a Senior Staff Accountant plus:

 • The position also involves some file review of engagement sections

 • Starting to manage less complex files

 • Communicate/meet with client prior to the engagement to determine expectations for the year-end

 • Training and supervision of more junior staff on technical issues

 • Monitor deadlines to ensure they are met and information is obtained from the client well in advance of the deadline, all while keeping the Reviewer informed 

  • Drafting of bills for clients that are being managed by Supervisor.

 • Takes on increasingly more complex work than that of a Senior Staff Accountant


General Accounting Engagements

 • Collect and review all relevant documents from the client and/or Manager prior to the engagement

  • Establish applicable time frame in which the engagement will be completed

 • When working with existing clients, inquire about and/or be aware of any changes or additional work required since the last year-end

 • Prepare applicable financial statements and notice to reader report with critical attention to detail

 • Ensure work is checked for accuracy and quality and all significant issues and tax planning opportunities are identified prior to submitting it to the applicable Reviewer for review

• In consultation with the applicable Reviewer, reflect full tax planning entries in the file when reviewed by Partner

 • Be able to prepare a more complex file from start to finish with minimal guidance and review notes and be able to review your own work for accuracy and qualify prior to submission to the applicable manger/partner for review

 • Demonstrates the ability and desire to take on increasingly more complex work

 • Supervise more junior staff on larger engagements (e.g. audits)

 • Supervise more junior staff throughout the engagement and review their file work for accuracy and quality and ensure required corrections are made prior to submission to Reviewer for final review, as agreed with Reviewer

 • Tax Returns, Other Filings and Planning


Job Requirements:


• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance or Business with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience

 • CPA designation is an asset

 • Strong tax, audit and accounting knowledge 

• Ability to carry an audit or review engagement from beginning to end

• Experience working with corporate groups as opposed to focusing on one client

 • Strong attention to detail • Excellent organizational and time-management skills

 • Superior communication skills, both verbal and in writing

  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with key contacts at different levels of an organization and understand their needs

 • Excellent networking skills

 • Highly proficient in MS Office Suite, CaseWare, Caseview and QuickBooks, Simply Accounting
