Position Title: Senior Tax Specialist [Audit & Assurance]

Position Type: Full Time, Permanent

Location: Hamilton, ON.

Job Overview:
Our client, a Public Accounting firm located in Hamilton, is seeking a Senior Tax Specialist to join their Audit & Assurance Division! This role is responsible for participating in the implementation of personal and corporate tax planning, developing tax structures, completing tax filings and maintaining positive client relationships.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage tax assignments including evaluation and advisement on client business processes and policies, developing proactive tax strategies which improve business efficiencies and meet changing market needs
  • Plan, scope and direct complex client projects; determine assignment costs, resources and fees for Partner approval
  • Review tax filings (T1, T2, T3 and T5013 returns) to ensure tax related matters are addressed and completed within requested timeline
  • Ensure foreign reporting forms are completed accurately and filed appropriately in corporate and personal tax situations
  • Participate in special tax engagements and projects, researching tax issues and preparing notes/presentations for staff as needed
  • Maintain commitment to client-focused environment by recognizing their needs, meeting deadlines and upholding confidentiality
  • Assist with administrative tasks including: entering time sheets and ensuring client engagements are billed upon completion, attending weekly department meetings, preparing tax engagement letters and project proposals/fees, monitoring tax engagements in process and pending to ensure deadlines identified and met

Job Requirements:

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in tax practice
  • Completion of CPA In-Depth Tax Course
  • Knowledgeable of Canadian Tax policies, procedures and trends, increasing awareness by sharing new developments or changes to partners and staff
  • Motivated to participate in and contribute to achieving team goals
  • Ability to understand client and firm key objectives, delegating tasks and prioritizing to provide direction and meet shared goals  
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Adaptable and willing to work collaboratively with Senior Tax Manager to plan, monitor and provide primary expertise during busy tax season
  • Proficient in TaxPrep and CaseWare
