Position Title: Senior Tax Manager

Position Type: Full Time, Permanent

Job Overview:
Our client, a Public Accounting firm located in Hamilton, is seeking a Senior Tax Manager to join their team! This role is responsible for supervising and mentoring staff to ensure that outstanding client tax services are delivered. The Senior Tax Manager will work closely with the Tax Partner to oversee tax functions and make sure the team generates high quality and timely tax projects for clients.  

  • Manage tax compliance needs of clients; oversee and prepare required tax returns and provisions and review tax section of Caseware files
  • Document and discuss any tax related issue with Tax Partner/team
  • Participate in income tax planning for personal and corporate tax planning by developing tax structures
  • Strategic player in building and maintaining client relationship; ensuring client needs are met and identifying opportunities to sell tax planning and other special services
  • Contribute to successful recruitment of new talent, as well as the training, mentorship and knowledge transfer of junior staff
  • Complete tax assignments (i.e. evaluation of client business processes and policies, advising on policy and tax changes to meet market needs, developing proactive tax strategies)
  • Plan, scope and direct complex client assignments/projects by determining assignment costs, resources and fees
  • Assist in administrative duties (billings, tax meetings, preparation of tax letters/quotes, monitor tax engagements)
  • Gather information and conduct research to provide complete, accurate and timely tax services within budget
  • Develop and execute timely strategies when new tax developments occur (i.e. budgets or legislation) to identify clients that could be impacted

Job Requirements:

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in tax practice
  • Knowledgeable of Canadian Tax policies, procedures and trends
  • Strong leadership abilities, experience with coaching and managing junior staff
  • Motivated to participate in and contribute to achieving team goals; maintaining a proactive, committed and highly driven team
  • Ability to understand client and firm key objectives, delegating tasks and prioritizing to provide direction and meet shared goals  
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills while maintaining dialogue with internal team and clients on any challenges or issues related to tax
  • Proficient in TaxPrep and CaseWare
