Job Description:


Roles and Responsibilities
  • Process day-to-day transactions including A/R, A/P, Payroll and Benefits, and  Banking.
  • Prepare government remittances including ETD, EHT, WSIB, GST, HST, QST, etc.
  • Prepare T4’s (including Taxable Benefits), and T5’s.
  • Analyze accounts up to trial balance, prepare reconciliations.
  • Establish and implement basic accounting procedures.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end working paper preparation.
  • Interact with client to ensure accurate and timely completion of all necessary tasks as per our contract with the client as well as a myriad of little things unique to each client.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Basic knowledge of accounting consistent with someone in 2nd or 3rd level CPA program (can be learned through formal courses or learned with on the job experience).
  • Thorough knowledge of office/accounting systems, procedures and document flows consistent with someone who has at least two years good experience in an accounting office environment.
 
Skills Required:
  • Interpersonal skills at a level where the client is comfortable that the Staff Accountant is competent.
  • Professional and proactive in both oral and written communication.
  • Proactive problem-solving/judgement skills at a level where simple problems/issues are solved and more complex problems/issues are identified and conveyed clearly to the appropriate party.
  • Organizational skills at a level where a reasonable volume of work can be completed accurately and on time (work/document etc. should be organized in a manner that is easy to follow and consistent with the standards.
  • Computer skills at a level where new programs and concepts can be learned at a reasonable pace (e.g. Sage 50, QuickBooks, MYOB, Sage 300, Business Vision, Excel, Internet Banking, and Payroll Systems).
  • Able to follow procedures and instructions provided by the Controller.
  • Work in a positive manner and convey a positive image.
  • Needs to work consistently and to work toward completing objectives on a timely basis.
  • Able to work independently, but confident to ask for support when necessary.
