Job Description:

We have partnered with our client located in Oakville in their search for a Senior Staff Accountant. 

The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible to the Managers/Senior Manager or Partners to assist and prepare the planning, execution, and completion of client engagements including audit, review, compilation; preparation of corporate tax return, financial statements and note disclosure (ASPE and IFRS) and supervision of junior staff

  1. Assist in/prepare the planning, execution and completion of audit and review engagements ensuring compliance with Canadian Auditing and Review standards as applicable
  2. Identify and assess risks associated with the business and develop testing methodologies to evaluate the adequacy of controls and account balances
  3. Assist in draft of financial statements and note disclosure in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  4. Execute and conclude on most sections of an audit engagement
  5. Develop templates in excel or word for new audit or review procedures to improve file documentation
  6. Draft corporate tax returns for review engagements and smaller audit engagements
  7. Prepare compilation engagements and related corporate tax returns
  8. Follow up directly with client to obtain information required to complete in-office compilation, review and smaller audit engagements
  9. Prepare personal tax returns, including some advanced returns
  10. Respond to Canada Revenue Agency audits or requests for information
  11. Develop appropriate knowledge, skills and competence consistent with CPA professional development requirements

Job Requirements:

  • CPA designation less than 1 year or has written and passed the CFE and will be obtaining designation within 6 months.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in assurance, accounting and tax planning (public accounting)
  • Experience with owner-managed private corporations
  • Highly motivated, flexible, and well organized
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team and supporting effective team planning
  • Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills
  • Possess interpersonal and problem-solving, time management and prioritizing skills
