Job Description:


We have partnered with our client, located in downtown Toronto, in their search for a Payroll Manager. This role is responsible for all tasks necessary to accomplish the organization’s US multi-state and Canadian payroll processing objectives with a high degree of confidentiality. This position requires an extremely detail orientated person with significant knowledge of payroll administration, including state and federal regulations as well as Canadian provincial payroll laws. 




  • Prepare and process salaried and hourly bi-weekly payroll for multiple US states and Canadian provinces
  • Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies and irregularities
  • Prepare payroll and benefits journal entries and analysis of all payroll related general ledger accounts (i.e. insurance, provincial medical, HCSA, WCB, and other employee benefits)
  • Prepare payroll journal entries by legal entity
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
  • Responsible for issuing all required forms including; T4, ROEs, etc.
  • Responsible for payroll and hourly timekeeping systems maintenance
  • Responsible for payroll related employee information maintenance
  • Maintain payroll and withholding requirements regarding paid and unpaid employee leave balances, benefit payroll deductions, overtime, bonus, health plans and garnishments
  • Review quarterly payroll tax reports for Canadian and US federal and multiple states/provinces
  • Research laws and regulations regarding taxes and payroll withholding procedures and document and communicate any changes
  • Ensure payroll policies are in compliance with the law and up to date
  • Comply with US and Canadian local, state/provincial and federal payroll regulations and responds to questions and special requests from regulatory agencies
  • Analysis and preparation of remittances including; WCB, EHT, payroll taxes, provincial medical, etc.






    Job Requirements:


    • College diploma in Payroll, Business Administration, HR, Finance or Accounting focus
    • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation required
    • 5 years of experience processing payroll
    • 5 years HRIS and/or payroll systems experience
    • Solid understanding of US and Canadian federal and state wage laws including payroll, benefits, taxes, withholding, deductions, WCB and garnishments
    • Hands-on experience in an accounting environment
    • Skilled in MS Excel
    • Proficient with HRIS and payroll systems
    • Thorough understanding of payroll processing, procedures, and payroll tax reports
    • Analytical processing and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent customer service skills
