Job Description:

Job Description
  • Join our growing team by becoming a part-time Counselling Specialist for high school students coming into Canada for their semester or full academic year of studies
  • Work with students (ages 14-19) and host families across Canada to support them on their “cultural journey” (by phone, e-mail, social media and video conference)
  • Liaison with sending offices/partners worldwide and provide updates regarding student well-being and supporting situations where students are struggling (updates get  passed along to their natural parents/legal guardians in their home country)
  • Be the custodian for up to 20 students in Toronto, supervising them throughout the school year. Standard contact is once per month, custodians are also the first point of contact for any challenges at school, medical issues, or mental health support required during their stay.
  • Outside of Custodian responsibilities in Toronto, be reachable via phone/video conference to conduct student risk assessments as needed  and provide guidance to host families/agents on how to handle various student counselling situations  across Canada ( this could be mental health questions or discussing the need and timing for a student move or helping a student who is struggling to make friends etc.).
  • Help to de-escalate counselling scenarios that come up in host family homes, while supporting the host family and agent, and while always having the best interest of the minor as our top priority.
  • Document all student counselling cases and upload them to the Educatius Canada CRM system.
  • This is a part-time on-call position, selected candidate must be available for any emergency situations on evenings and weekends (and have a back-up person for support if away)
  • Key counselling work occurs August 25th to June 30th (10-month period). Students return home during the summer, so there is a bit of counselling “down time” in July/August when the focus would shift to screening and visiting potential host families in the Toronto region, or training Educatius Canada staff in other provinces for the academic year ahead.
  • Other tasks as assigned by management staff.
