The Security Guard Specialist Shift is a 24/7 shift position responsible for the "day of" oversight, supervision, coordination and support of a front-line team of security guards assigned to security patrol, inspection and response within a critical infrastructure downtown Toronto. The Shift Lead is the primary "day of" point of contact for the client and as such is responsible for coordinating "day of" activities, challenges and changing requirements and appropriately respond to emerging operational issues, events or activities.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Respite Security Specialists provide a highly visible, advanced level security service to a variety of center’s at a critical infrastructure in a professional, competent and courteous manner. The primary responsibility of a specialist is to ensure a safe and secure environment for the protection of people, property and assets through continuous patrol, monitoring and routine and emergency response.

Security specialists are expected to maintain an in-depth knowledge of the specifics of the center’s they are securing and a continued vigilance while on duty. Specialists are required to comply with all company and client policies, procedures and directives. Specialists must instill a strong sense of safety and security among all stakeholders, guests, and the travelling public while providing a high level of professionalism and customer service in all interactions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Providing Tactical Security Services to Toronto Respite Center through the operation of various security systems, tactics, and patrolling, including responding to routine, emergency, security and law enforcement calls, maintaining the utmost confidentiality at all times.

· Monitoring and patrolling assigned areas. Observing, investigating and acting on possible breaches of security, fire and safety hazards, illegal entry, theft and malfunction or interruption of utilities

· Act as an ambassador of the client site by providing customer service, responding to public inquiries and performing guard tours along designated routes. Assist in the movement of visitors and staff

· Informing the designated authorities in the event of security, fire or health emergencies

· Activating fire alarm and safety systems and assisting in evacuation procedures. Escorting designated authorities, police, fire, ambulance personnel to emergency locations

· Screening unauthorized persons/staff and escorts or physically removing persons found trespassing, engaging in criminal acts or breaching the policies

· Recording and maintaining log books of daily activities, unusual or special occurrences and issuance of equipment to staff

· Legally arrest individuals and surrender same to Police as soon as possible

· Receiving/recording complaints, conducting investigations, preparing daily occurrence and incident reports, and conducting follow up investigations

· Providing security for protocol functions, demonstrations and special events

· Performing duties such as open-up and lock-down procedures, bomb threat searches, medical emergencies, prohibited item searches and security/life safety equipment inspections and testing

· Performing other related duties as assigned by the client contact or ASP

MANDATORY POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

All Full Time and Part Time Security Guards assigned to the sites must have experience in at least two (2) of the following categories:

· A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years proven experience in a related security function with duties similar to this position

·A graduate from a recognized community college in the field of law enforcement and security administration (ie. Police Foundations, Investigations, etc.)

· Hands on experience with making or assisting arrests

Successful completion of all required training/certification courses, including the initial and annual recurrent Guard Training/Certification is a pre-requisite for employment

· Basic Security Guard Training (Pre-Deployment) – Provided by ASP upon hire

· A.S.P. Orientation Training (Pre-Deployment) - Provided by ASP upon hire

· First Aid, CPR and AED certification (Pre-Deployment)

· AODA (Pre-Deployment) – Online Courses

· Use of Force certification (Pre-Deployment)

· Health & Safety & WHMIS Training (Pre-Deployment) – Online Courses

· Customer Service Training (within 6 months of Deployment) – Provided by ASP

In addition, Security Guards must possess all the following additional experience and key qualifications:

· Licensed by the Province of Ontario as a registered Security Guard and must maintain the license for the duration of employment

· Experience in modern corporate building security/law enforcement, security systems and their functions

· Strong working knowledge of various security hardware, software, keying and systems;

· Comprehensive knowledge of common security policies and various related Acts, Codes and legislation including the Criminal Code, the Trespass to Property Act, the Fire Code and WHMIS

· Ability to operate state of the art security equipment and possess strong computer skills

· Ability to react to and resolve emergency and crisis situations in a proper manner

· Demonstrated ability in preparing and maintaining clear, concise, and legible security reports

· Highly developed interpersonal and customer service skills, including conflict resolution, problem solving, decision making, situational assessment and communication skills

· Possess strong written and verbal skills in English

· Possess strong customer service skills

· Demonstrated knowledge of patrol procedures, evaluations of deficiencies and security standards

· Demonstrated ability in following security standards, work plans, and policies and procedures

ASSETS:
