TORONTO, ON: With the snow storm approaching, many Torontonians may want to work from home.

 

Over 10% of Canada’s population is now working from home on a part-time or full-time basis, according to the Canadian Telework Association. With technology advancing each day, telecommuting has become easier and more flawless than ever. With the right equipment and dedication to the organization, telecommuting increases work-life balance, creates cost savings and sustains personal flexibility and freedom. 

 

It is hard to stay focused and get your tasks done while working at home. It may become stressful and frustrating at times. So how can you stay productive and get the job done while working from the comfort of your own home?

  1. Start your day with an enjoyable task to help build momentum for the day
  2. Get up and get dressed as if you were going to your 9-5 job
  3. Work off a to-do list
  4. Leave the house for a scheduled lunch hour
  5. Set-up any scheduled appointments early in the morning or late in the afternoon
  6. Define your workspace; separate from your living space
  7. Set boundaries with your family and friends and reduce any chance for distraction.
  8. Set up conference calls with your co-workers and/or be available online
  9. Stay focused – don’t get distracted with things going on around you
  10. Stick to a schedule and set some goals!
