Employment growth slowed in October, as new COVID-19 restrictions were implemented.

Statistics Canada released its October job numbers today (Friday, November 6th, 2020) and reports 84,000 jobs were added last month, compared to 378,000 jobs added in September.

Most of the employment increase was in full-time work (69,000). The number of people working part-time was virtually unchanged.

Self-employment on the other hand increased for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic by 1.2%.

Among those who worked at least half their usual hours, the number of Canadians working from home increased by approximately 150,000 in October.

Employment growth continued for core-aged women (25-54 years old), increasing by 0.7% for the sixth consecutive month in October with gains focused on full-time work. Employment among core-aged men rose by 0.4% also driven by full-time gains.

The unemployment was little changed at 8.9%, compared to 9% in September.
