Employment growth slowed in November with 62,000 jobs added compared to an increase of 84,000 in October.

The gains were mostly focused on full-time employment with an increase of 99,000 jobs, while part-time work was little changed.

Employment growth in core-aged women (between 25-54 years old) was unchanged in November after six months of consecutive growth. Employment among core-aged men (between 25-54 years old) rose by 23,000.

Employment among youth between the ages of 15 to 24 rose by 0.9 percent (20,000), while the youth unemployment rate fell by 1.4 percent to 17.4%. This was mostly focused on young men with little change for women in the same age group.

In the accommodation and food services sector, jobs declined for the second consecutive month, falling by 24,000 in November. This does not take into consideration the new restrictions that came in major cities.

Total hours of work increased last month by 1.2 percent. Since May, the total hours worked has recovered steadily due to a more limited and targeted approach to public health measures since the lockdown in March.

The unemployment rate fell by 0.4 percent to 8.5 percent in November, continuing a steady fall from the record high 13.7 percent in May.
