Fun COVID-Friendly Activities for Family Day Weekend

Posted: 02.11.2021
Family Day is coming up this long weekend (Mon. Feb. 16th, 2021) and although the holiday will look very different than past years, it doesn’t mean you can’t have any fun while keeping socially distanced.

Below are some ways you and your family can make the most of Family Day this year.

1. Unplug from all your electronic devices.
This is a tough one because our lives are very much centered around technology, but taking some time to turn off your phone, TV, and laptop will allow you and your family to focus on each other. Take this opportunity to connect and communicate with all your family members. How is the pandemic making them feel? Do they need anymore support?

2. Sign up for a virtual Family Day event.
With social distancing measures in place, there are tons of virtual classes and events being held in place of live in-person ones. You can check out Eventbrite, where you’ll be able to find fun Valentine’s Day activities like a Kids Valentine’s Day Cooking Party. You can also check our Toronto4Kids, where they have a list of other activities like a Paint Party, Family Salsa Class, and a Virtual Winterfest you can sign up for.

3. Exercise.
Get you and your family moving on Family Day by going out for a walk – yes, we know it’s winter and it’s been very cold lately – but the fresh air will provide you with a lot of mental clarity. You could also try doing an at-home family exercise class – there are tons of options you can find on YouTube like Yoga with Adriene.

4. Have a game day.
Gather all of your family’s go-to snacks and have a game day by playing all of your favourite games like Monopoly, Uno, and Crazy Eights. You can even work on a family puzzle or set up a scavenger hunt.

5. Bake your favourite batch of cookies.
Whether it’s chocolate chip cookies, sugar cookies, or snickerdoodles, baking is a great way to bond with your kids. Use fun cookie cutters and add extra special and sweet tasting ingredients to make it more fun. Here are some tips to make baking with kids a little easier.

6. Don’t forget to focus on yourself.
It can be easy to forget about yourself when we are busy with work and raising a family, but don’t forget to take some “me time.” It can be anything from enjoying your cup of coffee without checking e-mails or finishing that book you’ve been putting off. Find a way this weekend to catch up with a hobby or project that has been put on the backburner and you’ll feel much more relaxed and ready to get back into work on Tuesday.
